Chairman’s Remarks at the beginning of our 52nd Season
Our Annual General Meeting in January voted to reduce our entry fees to the Championships and competitions as our finances remain healthy, supported by repeat Sponsorship for the League from Kavanaghs, Residential & Commercial Chartered Surveyors of Melksham and Trowbridge and for the Handicap Mixed KO Cup & Plate from Baron Martin Associates, Insurance Brokers of Melksham. Our inaugural John Ford Memorial Tennis Tournament at last got off the ground on Sunday 14th August 2011, organised by Colin Singer of Wylye on the artificial grass courts at Warminster School, with 32 players enjoying the friendly competitive atmosphere in good weather and splendid refreshments provided by the local RNLI (Lifeboats) group to whom our League was able to make a charitable donation of £320 towards their Funds.
Finally, I've learned that our Life Vice President, Malcolm Trotman of Civil Service, one of our oldest regular League players is to retire from the League for health reasons at the tender age of 78. We still have other septuagenarians playing regularly in the League, including myself. After a full year out for my own health reasons, I was able to make a modest return last season but anticipate being back to almost full steam this year and look forward to playing many of you again. As last year, Match Secretary Eddy Watts anticipates visiting most Clubs during 2012 and I know you will make him welcome.
